While in the grocery store, a while back, a friendly fellow shared this Kool-Aid pie recipe with Megan.  We had run to town to pick up a few things and while there this guy started talking with her.  When he realized she was newly married he was eager to share his recipe with her.  I walked up on the conversation in the midst of his jotting the recipe down on the back of a sales receipt.  I’ll never forget his enthusiasm in sharing this recipe with her.  He was such a happy-go-lucky-sort-of-guy.  This is just the sort of thing that makes me love small town living all the more.

Curiosity got the better of us as neither of us had ever heard of Kool-Aid Pie.  So, well, here it is.  I think it to be on the rather sweet side.  However, if sweet is your thing – you’re in luck.

I bought mixed berry flavored Kool-Aid thinking it would be the color of um… strawberries.  Well, I was wrong so blueberry color it is.

While making this Megan did a little taste test on the filling and couldn’t figure out what the flavor reminded her of.  After giving Joshua a spoon to taste they decided that the flavor reminded them of the blue sweet-tarts.

We decided to use the individual serving pie shells for our pies.  I love the idea of the little pies for kids summer-get-togethers.  Speaking of kids – this fast, easy recipe is perfect for them to help out with.

To make Kool-Aid Pie you will need – 1 ready made graham cracker pie crust, 1-14 ounce sweetened condensed milk, 1 envelope of Kool-Aid (any flavor), and 1 small tub of Cool Whip, thawed.

Mix all ingredients together until they are thoroughly combined.  This becomes really thick.

Pour into your pie crust and refrigerate at least an hour before serving.  Like I said earlier we used one recipe and it filled 12 of those cute little tiny pie crusts up perfectly.

Aren’t they just the cutest little things?

Hi L.R.! It was just pointed out to me in another reply that unsweetened Kool-Aid is what’s pictured. For some reason, I was thinking it was presweetened. So, the packet I used was actually unsweetened. :)

John, you are so right! I stand corrected. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The packet in the picture is what I used. :)
